Melvie Mae Payne, 88 of Sparta, Tennessee passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017, at Life Care Center of Sparta.

Born Tuesday, December 25, 1928 in New Berlin , Florida, she was the daughter of the late James Henry Simmons and the late Ethel Nola Geer Simmons. She worked at Mallory Timers for over 30 years, and was a member of The DeRosset Church of Christ. She loved her friends, and loved her job at Mallory Timers.

Surviving are
Daughter, Judy Payne Sullivan of Sparta
Sons, Tony D. Payne and Kenneth H. Payne, both of Sparta
Brother, Archie Simmons of Peoria, Illinois
Grandchildren, David Howell, Talonna Duke, Brandi Gray, Natasha Kreis, David Clouse, and Amanda Poe.
Ten great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild also survive.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Charles D. Payne, and brother, Kenneth Simmons.

Funeral will be held at 11am on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Joe Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Old Bon Air Cemetery in Sparta. Family will receive friends from 6pm until 9pm on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the funeral home.
