The world lost an incredible man on May 8th, 2023, as Cornelius (Pete) Gorter went to be with his Lord and Savior in Sparta, Tennessee. He was born on April 28th, 1941, to Cornelius and Theresa Gorter of Chicago, Illinois. He was married to Marsha for 55 years, and they had two children, Howard and Audra.

Cornelius was a family man first and foremost, and he cherished his wife, children, and grandson. He enjoyed woodworking, shopping with his daughter and going to the NHRA races with his son. He had a strong work ethic and spent his career at GTE/Verizon, where he earned the respect of his colleagues and built a reputation for excellence. Cornelius was also a proud veteran, having served his country honorably in the Army.

Cornelius will be remembered for his kind heart, selflessness, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. He was a true gentleman who touched the lives of everyone he met, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha Gorter, his children Howard Gorter and Audra Riley, their spouses Dana Gorter and Darren Riley, and his grandson, Lucas Gorter. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Antoinette (Paul), Marlene (Skip) and his first grandson, Samuel.
