Obituary for James Ronald Hallums Sr.

James Ronald Hallums Sr., the son of Van and Virginia Mildred Gibbs Hallums, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease and dementia. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 6, 1944 where he lived until 1973 when he and his childhood sweetheart, Levonda moved to Doyle, TN.

He and Levonda married June 22, 1965 and had three children, Theresa (Thomas) Price, James Ronald Hallums JR., and Heidi (Ronald) Roberts. They have four granddaughters, Heather (Ross) Yates, Virginia Hallums, Hailey (Sean) Will, and Katelynn (Phillip) Cole and four great grandchildren, Maebry Yates, Ryan Yates, Collin Will, and Hadley Cole.

James was a journeyman welder who worked for TN Metal Fabrication in Campaign, TN prior to becoming disabled. He taught many young men the art of welding.
His greatest accomplishment in life was his love for God. He was a devoted Christian. His family has no doubt that he is in the presence of God and rejoicing with his loved ones.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Pleasant Hill, TN and all the wonderful people at Kindred Hospice who cared for James.
In Lieu of flowers, the family ask that contributions be made in James’s name to Vanderbilt Children Hospital, who saved the life of his great-grandson, Collin.

The Funeral Service will be Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home at 2 PM with Bro. Tracy Curtis and Dwight Henry officiating, burial to follow at Skurlock Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 12- time of service.
