Obituary for Jimmy "Jamey" Floyd Farris Jr.

Jamey Farris of Sparta, TN, formerly Memphis, passed away Saturday, December 19, at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital of Sparta. He was 59.

Born to Jimmy “Hot Shot” and Norma Sue Wilhite Farris of Memphis, TN (formerly Sparta, TN), Jamey is the second and “Tallest Boy” of Jim and Norma’s family: Keeba, and twins Todd and Nanette. While in Memphis Jamey attend C. H. Spurgeon Academy and Evangelical Christian High Schools while helping his father with his business Apollo Distributing – supplying the surrounding communities with janitorial and maintenance supplies which gave him an unparalleled sense of direction and never-ending stories to tell – from “Speed Bump” to cleaning out rental house TVs. Upon graduating, he attended The University of Memphis and graduated with a degree in Communications and Broadcast Radio. Soon thereafter, he met his future morning coffee-drinking love Apryl and were married on January 26, 1991.

While moving back to his parent’s hometown of Sparta, Jamey began his own business and therefore continuing his father’s business in Cookeville, TN – Apollo Distributing, where he served the surrounding communities of the Upper Cumberland and Middle Tennessee which strengthened his ability to form connections with anyone he met. Jamey and Apryl welcomed their precious daughter Ashtyn, on April 1, 1994 and loving son Greyson, on February 18, 1999 whom they would nurture into the world as future disciples of Christ.

As a founding member of Immanuel Community Church, Jamey exemplified Christ throughout his life ministering to others in his favorite way – conversation. Jamey was an advocate of Reformed Theology and his greatest legacy is his Christian family. Instituting a strong work ethic, discipleship, and devoted husband and father, Jamey will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Norma Sue Farris of Memphis, formerly of Sparta. Jamey is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Apryl, and son Greyson Farris of Sparta, and daughter Ashtyn Farris Douglas and husband Braxton of Cookeville; as well as sisters and brother: Keeba and David Cunningham of Sparta, Nanette Farris of Memphis, and Todd and Amy Farris of Memphis, along with nieces and nephews: Kelsey Cunningham Osborne, Trae Dickey, DJ and Hampton Cunningham, Annalee Cunningham, McKinley and Carlton Farris.
