Obituary for Joanna Grove Beach

Joanna Grove Beach was born May 6, 1924, and passed from this life into her heavenly home on May 13, 2019, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Joe and Maude Deweese Grove and the last surviving child of eleven. Preceding her in death were her brothers, Robert, Tom, Billy, Jimmy, Otis, Drake, and Terry Grove, and sisters, Artie B. Pickett, Sophie Dell, and Edith Bayless.

Joanna was married to the late Solon Beach for forty-two years. She is survived by their children, Dee Kinnard of Sparta, TN, Marty Beach of Sale Creek, TN, Ann and Dean Lee of Mt. Juliet, TN, and Jan and Wayne Mitchell of Sparta, TN. She was blessed to be Granny and MaGrand to Danny Cummings, Tracie and the late Keith Ford, Kristy and Chad Smith, Matt and Christy Beach, Cason and Messina Hayes, Julie and Doug Smithhisler, Candice and Wes Burtner, Cameron and Alicia Mitchell and great-granny of nineteen, Daniel, Drew, Grant, Patton, Blair, Arden, Brock, Isabel, Carter, Anna, Tensley, Max, Reese, Grace, Scarlett, Kate, Carly, McKinley, and Colin. "Her children rise up and call her blessed." Proverbs 31:28 She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Joanna, Joann, or "Jo," as she was affectionately called, was born in the Rocky River community, but her family moved to the New Martin or Fall Creek Falls area of TN when she was five. She has written many stories and poems throughout her 95 years about her childhood and adult life. She lived through the great depression and yes walked to school barefoot! She was proud of the fact that all her brothers and her son served our country in the military. Joanna was poor but resourceful and always took time to be a servant and help others in her community. She was a hard worker all of her life. She worked in factories, was a teacher's aide, checked campers in at her beloved Fall Creek Falls State Park, and cared for the elderly. She had a passion for gardening and a green thumb like no other! Joanna was an active member of the home demonstration club for many years and enjoyed singing old folk songs at the Fall Creek Falls Folk Festival for the past 40 years. Most importantly, she loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and her church families at Wheeler Hill and Mt. Della Church of Christ. She has left behind a legacy of love, faithfulness, and service.

A Funeral Service will be held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home in Sparta, TN on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 6:00 PM with Dale Barger, Bob McCoy, and Brad Walker officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00-6:00 PM. Graveside service and burial will be at the Walling Cemetery, in the Fall Creek Falls Community, at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 17, 2019.
