Obituary for Ralph Douglas Broyles

Ralph Douglas Broyles, 82, of Cookeville, TN passed from this life 8/13/2019 at his home in Cookeville. He was born January 21, 1937 in Sparta, TN.

Ralph graduated from White County High School in 1955. He played football at the University of Tennessee and finished his football career as a Golden Eagle at Tennessee Tech in 1961, where he was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 2011. He married the love of his life Patricia Ann Stanakis Broyles on December 22, 1957 and celebrated over 60 wonderful years together. They had three children, Douglas Dewayne (Cyndi), Lafayette, TN; Kimberly Anne (Robert) Agee, Cookeville, TN; Kevin Ralph (Susie), Cookeville, TN. Ralph was the son of the late William Ray and Mattie Lula Bradley Broyles of Sparta, TN. Ralph was preceded in death by his wife Patsy, his oldest sibling Roberta, and his parents Ray and Lula. His surviving siblings are Kenneth (Martha Sue), Sparta, TN; Martha Jo Vaughn, Sparta TN; James (Betsy), Carthage, TN; and Leon (Martha Jane), Sparta, TN. Ralph has 7 grandchildren. Peyton (Logan) Broyles, Morgan (Jesse) McDowell; Andrew (Krissie) Agee; Robert (future wife Lexi) Agee; Joseph Agee; Jimmy (Sara) Hill; Ashley (Jordan) Purdy. He also had 7 great grandchildren. (Doug) Jaxon and Payson Agee, Bo Broyles. (Kim) Tucker Agee. (Kevin) Roane, Abram and Hattie Hill, J.P Purdy.

Ralph moved to Gainesboro after he and Patsy married and started his career with Farm Bureau the day after he graduated college and retired with over 40 years of service. He was a member of the Lions Club and served in many other community functions. He was also a board member for Citizens Bank for many years. Ralph was a loving husband and devoted father. He loved the Lord and led his life according to his teachings. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gainesboro where he was a leader in the church and sang in the choir.

The family will hold a private graveside service.

There will be a Celebration of Life Ceremony on 8/31/2019 at 3:00 PM held at the Frist United Methodist Church in Gainesboro for everyone who would like to attend.
