Sandra Kay Kozub, 77, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019 at her home in White County, after a long illness. She was born November 2, 1941, to Carl and Deloris Nye in East Lansing, Michigan. She attended local schools and Michigan State University. In 1965, she married Raymond Kozub, then a graduate student at MSU. From there, the family moved to Bryan, Texas, then to Stamford, Connecticut, then to Kingston, Ontario, Canada, and finally, in 1977, to Cookeville, Tennessee. Sandra was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She also did accounting and bookkeeping work outside the home on various occasions, and served for short periods as Administrative Assistant in the Department of Physics and in the Department of Mathematics at Tennessee Technological University.

Sandra had an intense interest in and compassion for animals, especially dogs. She ran a breeding and show kennel (KcK Kennels) at the family’s home in White County, where she produced many champion German Shepherd Dogs and Norwegian Elkhounds. She traveled to many dog shows all over the United States.

In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by her daughter, Racheall Hitchcock and sister Linda Brokaw. She is survived by Raymond Kozub, her husband of 53 years, her sister Geraldine Ranshaw of Mason, MI, her son John Kozub (Jinny) of Mount Juliet, TN, grandchildren Nicole Kozub of Mount Juliet, Samantha Tipton (Ben) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Amanda Hitchcock (Brandon) of Jacksonville, FL, and Christopher Kozub (Megan) of King George, VA, three great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Oak Lawn Funeral Home at 1786 Smithville Highway in Sparta, TN. Sandra’s wish for cremation will be honored.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 1-3 pm at Oak Lawn Funeral Home.

I always remember our visit to the Lawtons to pick out puppies from the litter sired by Lars, Sandys beautiful male elkhound. Too of the puppies just charged up to us and that was the ones we picked from the litter...Sandy's Spirit and my Brenne. So long ago but such great memories. Sandy was someone i didnt talk to much in the recent years, but i always thought much of her friendship.

Of course, I meant TWO of the puppies. not too. Sorry ,
