Walter Glenn Slatten, age 91, of Quebeck, TN, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2023, in the same house he was born in on December 19, 1931. He was the son of the late Bob Taylor Slatten and Arminda Denton. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Marie Swindell Slatten, and his daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Henry (H.L.) England. He was a member of Rock Island Church of Christ, and in his more active years, enjoyed leading hymn singing.
Glenn's passion for farming began when he was a boy and continued throughout his life. Glenn often recalled how he became a farmer. As a boy, he had acquired a sow and a litter of piglets around the same time his dad had purchased three fine Hereford cows and their calves. His dad sold the piglets, and in response, Glenn claimed the three calves as his own and, thus, became a cattle farmer! Glenn was a dedicated Cattleman's Association member and served on the board of directors for 20 years. He also served as the District Vice President for the TN Cattlemen's Association. The White County Soil Conservation District named Glenn Farmer of the Year in 2009. He received an Environmental Award for his farm from Woodmen of the World in 2010. In addition, the White/Van Buren Cattlemen's Association recognized Glenn as Cattleman of the Year in 2015. Beyond farming, in 1970, Glenn purchased his father's sawmill and began Slatten Cedar Mill. Glenn and Marie operated the mill for 30 years.
Glenn is survived by: Granddaughters Carol McEntyre, her husband, Michael of Columbia, MO, and Heather Mullins and her husband, Chris of Quebeck, TN. Great-grandchildren: Aiden Mullins, Nathan McEntyre, and Marin McEntyre. Brother: Harley Gaines Slatten and wife Mary of McMinnville, TN. Sister: Mary Helen Slatten of McMinnville, TN.
